By noon, on Wednesday 20th of 2021, Donald Trump’s disastrous Presidency came to an unceremonious end, two weeks to the day after a mob of his supporters unleashed violence at the American Capitol, in Washington D.C, seeking to overturn the election results, and one week to the day after he was impeached for so doing. The legacy he leaves behind, includes a city and a country reeling from four hundred thousand Americans dead, as of Tuesday, from a pandemic whose gravity he downplayed and denied for many months; plus an economic crisis; and an internal political rift so great that it invites comparisons to the Civil War.
Trump’s reign of tyranny finally ends today and it has inspired our latest alt. mondays playlist. For this week, we chose songs with a political message, the black spirit is alive and remains unfettered, with or without the man with the bad toupee. As our congratulations to President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, enjoy alt. mondays 036 featuring picks from famed political commentators, Marvin Gaye, Kendrick Lamar, MF Doom. Also enjoy reflective and celebratory numbers from Zinoleesky, Lil Baby and Pusha T, as well as wholesome satirical picks from Tekno, Jhene Aiko and Vince Staples.
